It is said that these bags originated from baskets made of wickerwork using Korean willow that grows abundantly in the Toyooka Basin, and that the origins of bags in Toyooka date back to 1881, when Yagi Choemon created and exhibited a "wicker trunk" at the Second Domestic Industrial Exposition. Taking advantage of its position as the largest bag-producing area in Japan, local producers are working to establish their own brand by developing related and environmentally friendly products.
