Tamba Tachikui-yaki Pottery

Tamba Tachikui-yaki Pottery
- Six ancient kilns in Japan: Tamba Tachikui ware
- This type of pottery is made near the Konda district of Tambasasayama City and is characterized by its unique colours and patterns known as "ash covering”, which is said to have originated in the late Heian period. When fired in a climbing kiln, the ash from the pine wood fuel, the iron in the soil, and the glaze melt together, causing a chemical reaction that creates unique colours and patterns. This results in no two pieces even being exactly alike. Recently, pieces with untraditionally pale colours and patterns using dyes, as well as pieces with a variety of designs are also produced.
