Socks
- One of Japan’s3largest sock production areas: Hyogo Prefecture
- Sock manufacturing in the Harima region began in 1886 when residents of Innami-gun Shikata Town brought back a hand-operated sock knitting machine from Shanghai and began manufacturing socks. Technological innovation progressed with the import of semi-automatic sock knitting machines in the early Taisho period, and automatic knitting machines in 1924. Harima's production scale was propelled to expand rapidly after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 caused damage to Tokyo, a major sock production area. Currently, Harima, along with Nara and Tokyo, forms one of Japan's three largest sock production areas.
